O, Canada

Well, I'm back safe and sound in the wonderful USA.  Let me tell you, flying to Canada and back can take a lot out of a person.  If I didn't have to get up and catch up on work I had missed this past week, I think I could have slept for the rest of the day.  But the trip was great.  Canada is gorgeous and reminded me a bit of Missouri.  Farms, crops and cows were everywhere.  Everything was green and alive, instead of brown and dead like it is here in Texas.  First, I guess I will quickly recap what my trip was like.

Monday morning I crawled out of bed and made it to the airport by 4 am... that was a struggle, let me tell you.  Then I boarded a very long flight to Detroit and then Ottawa.  Funny side note, I got stopped for a special interview to get into Canada.  I guess I'm shady.  Some people would agree, probably.  :)  We ended up at our hotel in the middle of nowhere, Canada at about two thirty their time, I think.  Some quick meetings and then dinner followed.  The moment my head hit the pillow that night, I was out.  The next day was the best, of course.  We spent all day on the river white-water rafting.  My goal is to get another group of friends to go again because it was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had.  Walls of water, serious air time, hilarious guides.  Actually, our guide really reminded me of Andy. Maybe if Andy was from southern California and bleached his hair.  Then Wednesday was spent divvying up jobs amongst the accounting team.  Needless to say, I won't be complaining of being bored any time soon.  I am really excited to get started, though.  Thursday we met with a team specialist that took us through some really interesting exercises.  I learned a lot about myself, that's for sure.  According to a test I took, I am a relational person who likes to please others and gets severe guilt when I let them down.  Hmmm... interesting.  Then we hopped on a plane and I got back home last night around 10:30pm.

Some interesting things about the trip should now follow, I guess.

1.  I bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dreadfully Ever After (the next in the series) to read to pass the time on planes.  So far it is pretty intriguing.  Much more mystery and storyline than the previous two.  I'm only about a fifth of the way through, but I love it so far.

2.  It is official.  After a week of listening to nothing but their latest CD, I am now in love with Mumford.  I know my friends Levi, Andy, Leeann and countless others are way ahead of the curve on this, but they are pretty new to me.  I remember listening to them a bit last semester, but I never really got into it.  Fear not, my opinion is now completely changed.  They are amazing.

3.  Canada is strange.  They patrol roads from the air (in helicopter) and give you tickets that way.  Also, no talking on cell phones while driving.  It's the law.  Crazy, right?  My dad probably wishes I got sent there, haha.  Measurements also take a bit of getting used to.  I was working with the guy from our office in Canada and he talked about it being the hottest day in Richmond Hill at about 40 degrees.  It took me a while to realize that he was talking in Celsius, haha.  Finally, Canada is very proud to be Canada.  Their flag is absolutely everywhere.  It puts the US to shame.

Well, that's about all I have.  It was a great trip, I got to meet a lot of great people on my team and I think it will definitely be easier to communicate with them.  I am very happy to be in Texas, though.  It's (almost) home :)

Until next time, good bye from sunny (and hot) Texas!

  1. Where in Canada did you go? Probably no where near me but I was up there the same week in New Brunswick & Nova Scotia. I like Nova Scotia a lot!! The measurements were weird...especially as we were driving a lot and you'd see it was for example, 110 km to go....and it's only 68 miles...not near as bad as it seemed! :)
